Lovingly Destroying the Grid

In my digital illustration class we were assigned to create a project based on Lisa Sheirer's Lovingly Destroying the Grid series, where we scanned in 6 objects, and edited them into a patterned like design.

My scanned in items were as such:

  • Needles and syringes

  • A pill bottle

  • An insulin vial

  • Pills

  • An Omnipod, which is an insulin delivery device

  • An 100 dollar bill

Here's my final collage, and I extremely enjoy how this one turned out. I'm thinking about making these a print to make in the future. The only difficult part was using the hundred dollar bills, as Abode wasn't too keen on opening any image containing "legal tender" in their programs because of fear of people potentially attempting to counterfeit money. I'm thinking of calling the piece "Existence Toll" but I'm not married to the name, as I'm trying to find something maybe shorter and a bit more evocative. I think this is my favorite piece I've made, hopefully I can sell prints of this in the future.
